President Paul Boschert ’77 and Principal Kurt Schneider ’93 are pleased to announce the addition of a second learning consultant to work with our students on a daily basis. Alison (Hannegan McKee) Fitzgibbons ’14 joined our faculty at the beginning of January.
Mrs. Fitzgibbons comes to Duchesne with seven years of experience in special education, four of which were in the high school setting. She is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and is tri-certified to teach Special Education K-12 as well as Elementary Education for grades 1-6 and Early Childhood Special Education.
Her past positions provided experience in managing, developing and writing Reviews of Existing Data, IEPs, Transition Plans, and Summaries of Performances for graduating seniors. She has done a significant amount of classroom teaching, including Study Skills, Literature, and Algebra. This required large amounts of collaboration and organization with general education teachers and service providers, along with case management responsibilities.
“I thoroughly enjoy working with high school students and providing them with the necessary modifications and accommodations to best form a strong sense of metacognition, and with their families to help set their child up for future success,” Mrs. Fitzgibbons said.
"Being at Duchesne as a Learning Consultant feels like a full circle moment to me. I was a student that would have benefited from this program when I attended here, so to be here providing these supports and guidance fills me with pride,” she continued. “I have been so impressed with seeing all the traditions that have remained here at Duchesne, while also witnessing the growth and efforts for inclusion and student engagement. The transition to my alma mater has felt seamless – the students are bright and welcoming, and the staff have made me feel like I never left! It is so great to be back home and to be a Pioneer!"
Pioneer Pride runs in Mrs. Fitzgibbons’ family. Like many of our faculty and staff members who are alumni, she has a number of connections to our school. Her siblings include Erin Hannegan-McKee ’16 and Nathaniel McKee ’09; her mom is Kathleen Hannegan ’79; and she has three DHS alumni uncles – Mike ’80, David ’81, and Tom ’88. Additionally, Mrs. Fitzgibbons’ grandmother, Mary Lou Hannegan, once worked in Duchesne’s Advancement office. We welcome this newest member of our school family and thank Mrs. Fitzgibbons for making it a Great Day to be a Pioneer!
