A Day in the Life of a Duchesne Student

As I walk into Duchesne each morning, scurrying to get to homeroom on time, I am greeted by a flood of people at their lockers, talking and laughing every second up to the morning bell.  Homeroom is a flurry of last minute homework and quick chats before the next bell.

Classes begin and students pour into the hallways, running to catch up with friends, or walking at a snail's pace to keep one eye on the notes for next period's test. Down the hallways I see everyone happily greeting each other: smiles, waves, and shout-outs like "HEY GREAT GAME LAST NIGHT!" never cease.  In class, this community feel is strengthened as I slide into my seat and look around to see these same friendly faces surrounding me.

Lunch is refreshingly chaotic: everyone crowds around the big circular tables- shoving their bookbags to the aisles and out of their minds.  All thoughts turn toward the weekend: big news from last weekend or big plans for this one!  Looking around the room, I can see dozens of groups of people enjoying each other's company, joking around and having fun.

The comfort I feel in the confines of our hallways, classes, and cafeteria is just one picture of the strong sense of community at Duchesne.  Whether it be at school Masses, plays, football games, or pep rallies, the community element is profound.  In my four years at Duchesne, it has become more than a school to me.  It has become a family- a home away from home- and I don't need to look any further than my daily life there to find evidence of this.
