The
“shadow” program at Duchesne provides a valuable opportunity for
grade-school students to spend a day as a high-school student.
The grade-school visitor will accompany our special Duchesne
student ambassador through his/her day – attending classes, studying,
taking tests/quizzes, eating lunch, etc.
We ask that the shadow program be used as a tool to evaluate if the
Duchesne High School environment is right for you.
Please do not abuse the program by taking one of the limited spots,
even though you are 100 percent sure you will or will not be attending
Duchesne. The shadow program is for students who have not yet decided
on their first-choice for high school.
-
Visitors
must register with Mrs. Emily Kuryla Saettele (Duchesne’s Manager of Marketing
and Recruitment) in the Office of Advancement at (636) 946-2603 or
ekuryla@duchesne-hs.org in advance. Please make
your request at least one week prior to the scheduled visit day, when
possible. No reservation
is official until it is confirmed by Duchesne (either by phone or
e-mail). Parents are asked not to simply leave a message and send
their child to DHS that day.
-
Guests
are welcome to “shadow” a friend or relative who is already at
Duchesne, provided that person is an approved student ambassador.
-
Only
freshmen and sophomores will be allowed to host shadow guests –
NO EXCEPTIONS.
-
Boys
will shadow boys and girls will shadow girls – NO EXCEPTIONS.
-
Eighth
graders are welcome to visit in the fall, and seventh graders are
welcome to visit in the spring.
-
A
maximum of 10 visitors will be permitted on any given day.
-
Due
to space limitations in the classrooms, only one guest will be allowed
to shadow each student ambassador.
-
We
ask that our guests adhere to our dress code, which allows them to
wear tennis shoes and a tucked-in shirt with a collar (any color, striped, etc.), but please
refrain from wearing jeans or cargo pants. Dress pants should be khaki or navy in color, with no cuts or
fraying of the pant legs.
-
Duchesne
will provide complimentary lunch in our cafeteria. If students
would rather bring their lunch, that is certainly fine.
-
Visitors
are asked to report to the school's Advancement Office -- located in the 310 Building
(next to the tennis courts) -- between at 7:45 a.m. The Duchesne student
host will not be available until 7:45 a.m., so arriving especially
early is not warranted.
-
Our
school day ends at 2:45 p.m., and shadow guests can be picked up back
at the Advancement Office at that time.
